An Introduction to Orthodox Christianity (bi weekly) on Friday evenings from 19.00 – 22.00 In 12 sessions. This twelve session course includes a light supper, a talk, group discussion, a question-and-answer session, and the opportunity for friendship with others.
After highly successful presentations in London (twice), Singapore and Sydney,and the USA, the course developed by the Cambridge-based Institute for Orthodox Christian Studies is being presented for the first time in South Africa at the Metropolis of Good Hope in Cape Town, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Sergios
This course will be conducted in English by Father Zacharias van Wyk and Dr. Macrina Walker
Fr. Zacharias van Wyk is a priest of the Afrikaans Orthodox Church of St Mary of Egypt, Robertson, and also serves a monthly English Liturgy in Rondebosch and an Afrikaans Liturgy in Stellenbosch. He is registered as a clinical psychologist and has a number of years of experience as a psychotherapist and is involved in the translating of Orthodox liturgical texts into Afrikaans and setting them to music.
Dr. Macrina Walker taught theology in a Catholic seminary before entering a Cistercian monastery in the Netherlands. She left the Catholic monastery in order to become Orthodox and spent several months visiting Orthodox monasteries in Europe before returning to South Africa.
