Bedehuis Bethanië
The “Betanië Bedehuis” (Bethany House of Prayer) is the centre for a mission to Afrikaans speakers on the outskirts of the town of Robertson, nestling under the majestic Langeberg Mountains in a beautiful and tranquil valley. Although the number of people who attend services in Robertson is not large at the moment, contacts with people who have an interest in getting to know the Orthodox Church have been established country-wide, and a great deal of translation work of liturgical texts is being done and these liturgical texts are then set to music for use in any parish where there may be a need for Afrikaans services. “Betanië” was founded with the express intention of being a source and resource for making our Orthodox faith, which is practically unknown among Afrikaans speakers, known and available to them. After Zulu and Xhosa, Afrikaans is the third largest language in South Africa and is spoken by more than 5 million people.
